Q: What is this website?

A: This website allows Augusta County taxpayers to pay local taxes and correspond with the Commissioner of the Revenue's and Treasurer's offices.

Accounts

Q: Do I need a portal account to make an online payment?

A: No, you can use "Make a Quick Payment" from the home page.

Q: How can I create multiple portal accounts with the same email?

A: You can use plus addressing to have multiple portal accounts linked to a single email by adding "+" and a tag before the "@" in your address. For example, if you email is taxpayer@email.com, you could use taxpayer+example@email.com or taxpayer+tag123@email.com.

Q: Why is my account number not recognized?

A: With out software conversion, accounts have been assigned new numbers. If you need your new account number, you may contact the Commissioner's or Treasurer's office.


Treasurer's FAQ's

Q: When are real estate taxes and personal propety and business tangible property taxes due?

A: Real Estate taxes are due twice a year on June 5th and December 5th. Personal property taxes are due December 5th of each year. If the due date falls over a weekend, the taxes are due on the following Monday.

Q: I know you don't accept payment by phone, but how can I pay my bill?

A: You can pay your bill online, in person at our office or drive through window (located at the Augsuta County Government Center, 18 Government Center Lane, Verona VA 24482). You can also drop off your payment at our secure drop box located near our drive through window.

Q: What do I do if i do not receive a tax bill?

A: Please contact the Treasurer’s office at (540)245-5660 or by email (treasurer@co.augusta.va.us) as soon as possible. Failure to receive a tax bill does not prevent the Treasurer’s Office from applying penalty and interest if payment is made after the due date.

Q: I owe taxes from previous years, how will my latest payment be applied?

A: Per Virginia Code, any payment received is always applied to the oldest tax year UNLESS those taxes are part of a bankruptcy.

Q: I sold my car, why am I still being billed for it?

A: Augusta County bills for anthying that is titled in your name as of January 1st of the billing year. If you sold or traded your car after January 1st, you will pay the taxes for that year. Augusta County does not pro-rate.

Q: When are taxes considered delinquent?

A: Taxes are considered delinquent the day after the taxes were due.

Q: I am unable to pay my taxes by the due date, what options do I have?

A: Any amount paid prior to the due date will minimize penalties and interest, so it is best to pay what you can before the due date. Only the remaining balance is subject to penalties and interest. Please contact our office if you would like to set up a payment plan.

Q: How much is the late payment penalty and interest on delinquent taxes?

A: The penalty is assessed on the first day the tax is delinquent. A late payment penalty of 10% will be applied if payment has not been received by the due date. Additionally, interest will accrue at the rate of 10% per annum, assessed monthly.

Q: I am unable to renew my license plates or change vehicles registrations at the DMV becuase of outstanding Augusta County personal property taxes. Why?

A: Augusta County is permitted by the Virginia DMV to stop renewals of vehicle registrations of any taxpayer that owes Augusta County delinquent personal property taxes. The stop is on the taxpayer, so it applies to any/every vehicle that person is an owner, co-owner, or of which is listed on title. To have the stop removed, all of the delinquent taxes/fees for the taxpayer(s) whom the stop is placed, must be paid.

Q: There are two names on the tax bill, why did you come after me? I was just a co-signer on the vehicle.

A: All names that appear on the registration are equally liable for payment of taxes.
